From the regal forts of Rajasthan to the sacred riverbanks of Bateshwar and the timeless beauty of the Taj Mahal. This 13-night tour offers a sensory feast for photographers and travellers alike.

Step into a world of colour, contrast, and culture on this exclusive small-group photography journey through northern India. This journey takes the participant to a few diverse places in northern India. The state of Rajasthan is the quintessential India of colourful markets, turbaned men and women in flowing skirts, forts and palaces. In the state of Uttar Pradesh, we visit Agra to view the unforgettable Taj Mahal.

Not far from there is Bateshwar, where an animal fair and a religious fair take place annually in October/November. This would present a unique and off-beat opportunity that any photographer would be delighted with. From modern cities to the rural countryside, this photography tour will give participants a wide array of subjects, people, settings and themes to observe and photograph. It will also give ample time to visit the major attractions in each place.

Throughout this photographic journey, you’ll be accompanied by an English-speaking photography mentor, offering expert guidance on composition, camera settings, and creative techniques. You’ll also have a dedicated coach driverensuring smooth travel, and a local English-speaking guide at each destination to provide cultural insights and local knowledge.

Your comfortable, air-conditioned coach offers more seats than needed, allowing you to spread out, keep your camera gear and personal items within easy reach, and store your luggage securely in the compartment below.

DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1 – Monday 18 Oct | In Transit – Arrival in Delhi

Arrive on your international flight into Delhi. A Jasmine Trails representative will meet and transfer you to your hotel.

Day 2 – Tuesday 19 Oct | Discover New Delhi

Begin your exploration of India’s capital, a blend of Mughal grandeur and modern design.
Visit India GateParliament House, and the President’s Palace before heading to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Delhi’s largest Sikh temple. Experience the peace of kirtan (devotional music) and observe volunteers preparing meals for thousands in the community kitchen.

Day 3 – Wednesday 20 Oct | Old Delhi & Lodhi Gardens

Capture the organised chaos of Old Delhi – its narrow lanes, spice markets, and crumbling Mughal facades. Take a cycle-rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk and photograph the vibrant street life.
Later, stroll through Lodhi Gardens, filled with 15th-century tombs and peaceful green spaces – perfect for soft-light photography.

Day 4 – Thursday 21 Oct | Fly Delhi → Jodhpur (1½ hrs)

Morning flight to Jodhpur, the famed Blue City. Explore the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, rising above a sea of indigo houses.
Enjoy panoramic shots from the ramparts at golden hour.

Day 5 – Friday 22 Oct | Jodhpur Street Scenes

Wander through the Clock Tower Market where villagers sell spices, fabrics, and bangles. Capture candid portraits and local colour, from sari sellers to street dentists. Afternoon free for editing or optional blue-house photography walk.

Day 6 – Saturday 23 Oct | Jodhpur → Barli (4½ hrs)

Depart Jodhpur after breakfast for Barli, a peaceful rural village. Stay within a beautifully restored heritage fort hotel. Photograph daily life – potters, schoolchildren, temples, and colourful markets.

Day 7 – Sunday 24 Oct | Barli → Jaipur via Bagru (4½ hrs)

Morning photo session around Barli’s lakes and farmlands, then drive to Jaipur, the famed Pink City and UNESCO World Heritage site. Stop en route in Bagru, known for traditional block-printing.
Evening orientation walk through the walled city and bazaars.

Day 8 – Monday 25 Oct | Jaipur Highlights & Markets

Photograph the Hawa MahalCity Palace, and Jantar Mantar observatory.
Wander through the flower and spice markets bursting with colour. As Diwali approaches, Jaipur’s streets are illuminated – capture the city’s glow in the evening light.

Day 9 – Tuesday 26 Oct | Amber Fort & Elephant Sanctuary

Visit Amber Fort, the former royal capital, and photograph its intricate courtyards and mirrored halls.
Continue to a private elephant sanctuary, where you’ll meet, feed, and walk with rescued elephants. Enjoy a forest-style picnic lunch and a sunset shoot at Jal Mahal (Water Palace).

Day 10 – Wednesday 27 Oct | Jaipur → Agra (5 hrs)

Drive to Agra and witness the awe-inspiring Taj Mahal, shimmering in afternoon light. Explore additional Mughal monuments or photograph the Taj from across the Yamuna River at sunset.

Day 11 – Thursday 28 Oct | Agra → Bateshwar (1½ hrs)

Journey into rural Uttar Pradesh to Bateshwar, famed for its riverbank temples and annual animal and religious fairs. Photograph villagers, pilgrims, and traders gathered along the Yamuna River.

Day 12 – Friday 29 Oct | Bateshwar Fair & Diwali Celebrations

Spend the day at the Bateshwar Fair capturing scenes of devotion, livestock trading, and festival colour.
In the evening, return to photograph Diwali lights reflecting off the temples – a magical night of candles, chants, and colour.

Day 13 – Saturday 30 Oct | River Safari & Return to Delhi (4½ hrs)

Early morning river safari on the Chambal River, home to gharials (fish-eating crocodiles), turtles, river dolphins, and myriad birds – perfect for wildlife photography.
Drive to Delhi, arriving late afternoon.

Day 14 – Sunday 31 Oct | Depart Delhi → Home

In the unlikely event that the tour is cancelled by us, you will receive a full refund, including your deposit, paid to your nominated bank account. Alternatively, you may opt to transfer your booking to another tour operated by Travel With Lesley Whyte or one of our affiliated brands.
