Join us for an inspiring 7-night immersive photography retreat dedicated to the art of creating expressive fine art floral and botanical imagery using Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), creative shutter techniques, and artistic interpretation.
Hosted on the spectacular Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, this unique small-group experience is led by Karen Waller, one of Australia’s most respected fine art ICM photographers. Designed for photographers wanting to expand their creative vision, this retreat encourages you to slow down, see differently, and transform flowers, foliage, bark, leaves and botanical subjects into stunning painterly works of art.
More than simply learning a photographic technique, this retreat is about developing your artistic voice. Through guided tuition, hands-on field sessions, image reviews and creative experimentation, you’ll learn how movement, light, texture and colour can be combined to create images that evoke emotion, atmosphere and imagination.
Throughout the retreat you’ll work with a variety of botanical subjects and creative techniques, including:
• Fine art floral and botanical ICM
• Autumn leaves, textures and seasonal colour palettes
• Creative shutter techniques and long exposures
• Layered movement and multiple exposure imagery
• Bark, foliage and abstract botanical details
• Storytelling through movement, colour and atmosphere
• Creative use of off-camera flash for floral subjects
• Fine art interpretation rather than documentary capture
Throughout the retreat you’ll immerse yourself in a rich variety of floral and botanical subjects, exploring colour, texture, form and movement in ways that transform ordinary scenes into expressive fine art imagery. Each day presents new creative opportunities to experiment, refine your vision, and develop a distinctive artistic style.
As with all Women in Photography retreats, this is a true Capture to Print experience.
The retreat concludes with dedicated editing, image refinement and fine art printing sessions, where Karen and Lesley will guide you through the final stages of the creative process.
You’ll learn how to select your strongest images, enhance them using Lightroom Classic and Photoshop, and prepare them for exhibition-quality printing using professional Epson fine art printers and premium archival papers.
Imagine returning home with a collection of beautifully printed A3+ fine art artworks — tangible pieces that reflect your creativity, learning and artistic growth throughout the retreat.
This retreat is designed for photographers who are already comfortable operating their camera in manual mode and who have some experience with creative exposure techniques.
Participants should also have a working knowledge of Adobe Lightroom Classic and Adobe Photoshop, as post-processing forms an important part of the creative workflow and print preparation process.
Previous experience with off-camera flash is helpful but not essential, and photographers who are keen to explore this technique will be supported throughout the retreat.
Because of the advanced creative concepts explored — including ICM, layered movement, long exposures, artistic interpretation and fine art printing — this retreat is best suited to photographers wanting to further develop their creative expression rather than complete beginners. However, photographers who have previously attended one of our ICM retreats are warmly encouraged to join us.
This is an opportunity to step beyond traditional photography, immerse yourself in creativity, and explore a more artistic approach to image-making. You’ll leave with new skills, renewed inspiration, lasting friendships, and a collection of beautiful fine art prints that tell the story of your creative journey.
Meet Lesley Whyte at Adelaide Airport at 11.00am as we begin our journey to South Australia’s spectacular Yorke Peninsula, travelling through changing rural landscapes, coastal scenery and charming country towns en route to our retreat base at Warooka.
Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation before joining fellow participants for a welcome gathering and retreat briefing. This is an opportunity to meet Karen Waller and Lesley Whyte, discuss the creative journey ahead, and begin preparing for a week dedicated to artistic exploration, learning and inspiration.
Throughout the retreat we are hosted between the beautiful Ballara Art & Lifestyle Retreat and the welcoming Warooka Hotel, both providing a relaxed and comfortable base for our small-group experience.
Accommodation is intentionally intimate, ensuring a highly personalised retreat environment while allowing participants to remain closely connected throughout the week.

Throughout the retreat you’ll work with a rich variety of floral and botanical subjects, exploring colour, texture, form and movement in ways that transform ordinary scenes into expressive works of art. Image reviews, mentoring sessions and collaborative discussions are woven throughout the retreat, providing valuable feedback and helping you strengthen both your technical and creative skills.
The final full day of the retreat is dedicated to transforming your captures into finished works of art.
Karen will work closely with you to select, refine and creatively enhance your strongest images, guiding you through the artistic decision-making process that elevates an image from capture to exhibition-quality artwork.
Lesley will then assist participants through the professional printing process, helping prepare and print a selection of images on premium fine art papers using professional Epson printing equipment.
One of the most rewarding moments of the retreat is seeing your creative vision come to life in print. Participants will leave with a collection of beautifully printed A3+ and A4 fine art images ready for framing, gifting or display.
Following a very early breakfast we farewell the Yorke Peninsula and commence our return journey to Adelaide Airport.
Flights should be scheduled to depart after midday.
As the retreat concludes, you’ll return home with far more than a memory card full of images.
