Itinerary
Day 1 – Thursday 16 September 2027 – Welcome to Hobart
Our Tasmanian adventure begins today as we fly to Hobart, arriving at approximately 9.30pm.
On arrival, we’ll be met for our private transfer directly to the lovely 4.5-star Mövenpick Hotel, our home for the next four nights.
Located right in the heart of Hobart, the Mövenpick is perfectly positioned within easy walking distance of the Hobart waterfront and Salamanca areas – ready for us to begin exploring tomorrow.
After checking in, it’s time to settle into your room and enjoy a good night’s rest before our Tasmanian adventure really gets underway in the morning.

Day 2 – Friday 17 September 2027 – Bruny Island
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
Today we’re off to one of Tasmania’s most famous destinations – beautiful Bruny Island.
Our full-day adventure combines nature, wilderness, spectacular coastline, local heritage and some of Tasmania’s wonderful artisan produce.
We’ll taste our way across Bruny Island, visiting local producers and sampling cheese, wine, beer, fudge, honey and oysters.
Along the way we’ll visit the iconic lookout at The Neck, walk through ancient Mavista Rainforest and keep watch for Bruny Island’s rare white wallabies.
Tonight we return to Hobart.

Day 3 – Saturday 18 September 2027 – Salamanca Markets & Hobart Harbour Cruise

This morning we’ll visit Tasmania’s famous Salamanca Markets, located just a short stroll from our hotel.
Enjoy time browsing stalls filled with Tasmanian arts and crafts, timber products, fresh produce, food, coffee, wine and locally made treasures.
There’s also time to explore Salamanca’s historic sandstone buildings, galleries, boutiques and cafés or wander through nearby Battery Point and Hobart’s waterfront.
This afternoon we’ll make our way to Brooke Street Pier for a scenic 60-minute cruise on Hobart Harbour.
We’ll cruise past Battery Point, Sandy Bay and Wrest Point and across towards Hobart’s eastern shore, enjoying wonderful views and entertaining commentary along the way.
Tonight we’ll come together for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4 – Sunday 19 September 2027 – MONA

Today is deliberately relaxed, allowing you to enjoy the day at your own pace.
We’ll travel along the Derwent River aboard the MONA ferry to the Museum of Old and New Art.
MONA has become one of Tasmania’s premier attractions and one of Australia’s most distinctive cultural experiences.
Much of the museum is underground, excavated into the sandstone, while the wider complex includes vineyards, restaurants, gardens and sculptures.
Take your time exploring, perhaps stop for something to eat or drink, and return to Hobart aboard one of the regular ferries when you’re ready.

Day 5 – Monday 20 September 2027 – Hobart to Port Arthur

This morning we farewell Hobart and begin our journey around Tasmania.
We’ll explore more of the city before travelling to the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington, where spectacular panoramic views stretch across Hobart and southern Tasmania.
From here we travel into the Coal River Valley, one of Tasmania’s premier wine regions, where we’ll enjoy lunch at a family-operated winery and sample some of Tasmania’s wonderful wine and local produce.
We continue to historic Richmond and its beautiful convict-built stone bridge before travelling towards the Tasman Peninsula.
Along the way we’ll stop at Pirates Bay, discover the story of Eaglehawk Neck and the infamous Dog Line and enjoy short scenic walks at Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.
Our final stop is Port Arthur Lavender Farm before arriving at our accommodation near the Port Arthur Historic Site.

Day 6 – Tuesday 21 September 2027 – Port Arthur to Bicheno

Our morning begins with a fully guided visit to the Port Arthur Historic Site.
We’ll explore many of the original buildings and learn about Tasmania’s convict history, Point Puer, the Isle of the Dead and Port Arthur’s timber industry.
A scenic harbour cruise gives us another perspective of this extraordinary historic site.
Next comes something considerably sweeter, with a stop at Federation Chocolate to sample handmade chocolates.
Leaving the Tasman Peninsula, we begin our journey along Tasmania’s beautiful East Coast, stopping at Raspins Beach, Spiky Bridge and Spiky Beach before travelling through Swansea and Great Oyster Bay.
After arriving in Bicheno, we’ll finish our day looking for the delightful little fairy penguins returning to shore.

Day 7 – Wednesday 22 September 2027 – Bicheno, Bay of Fires & Launceston

We begin our morning at Bicheno’s Blowhole before visiting the multi-award-winning East Coast Natureworld.
Here we’ll meet some of Tasmania’s native wildlife, including the iconic Tasmanian devil, wombats and kangaroos.
Then it’s time to travel one of Tasmania’s most spectacular coastal roads towards the magnificent Bay of Fires.
At Binalong Bay we’ll stroll along pristine white-sand beaches and discover one of Tasmania’s most colourful coastal landscapes.
There are fresh Tasmanian oysters to sample from a working oyster farm before we continue to Pyengana for cheese tastings.
Our journey then takes us through ancient myrtle rainforest, historic Derby and Legerwood before arriving in Launceston.

Day 8 – Thursday 23 September 2027 – Launceston to Cradle Mountain

This morning we’ll explore Launceston, including a walk through beautiful Cataract Gorge Reserve.
Leaving the city behind, we travel through the picturesque Meander Valley, stopping for locally made ice cream and honey tastings.
Lunch today is at 41° South Salmon Farm before we continue to Marakoopa Cave.
During our guided cave experience we’ll discover ancient limestone and crystal formations and see the magical natural population of glow worms.
From here we travel into Tasmania’s Central Highlands and magnificent Cradle Mountain National Park.
As dusk approaches, we’ll head out in search of wombats and other native wildlife before settling into the beautiful 4-star Cradle Mountain Hotel.

Day 9 – Friday 24 September 2027 – Cradle Mountain to Strahan

Today brings us to one of Tasmania’s great natural icons – Cradle Mountain.
We’ll travel to beautiful Dove Lake for spectacular views of Cradle Mountain and enjoy short walks to Glacier Rock and the famous boatshed.
We’ll also explore the appropriately named Enchanted Walk and visit historic Waldheim Cottage.
Depending on the weather and the energy of the group, there may also be an opportunity to explore part of the Cradle Valley Boardwalk or Knyvet Falls.
Leaving Cradle Mountain, we travel west through historic mining country towards Strahan, passing Lake Rosebery and Zeehan and stopping for wonderful views across the Southern Ocean.
On arrival in Strahan we’ll discover more of this historic harbour settlement before enjoying dinner and our overnight accommodation.

Day 10 – Saturday 25 September 2027 – Strahan to Tarraleah

This morning we’ll visit historic Queenstown before taking in panoramic views from the Iron Blow lookout at Mount Lyell.
We then travel through the World Heritage-listed Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.
A beautiful rainforest walk brings us to Nelson Falls before we continue to the famous Franklin River and hear the story of the environmental campaign that became an important part of Australia’s conservation history.
Our journey continues through mountains, button-grass plains, eucalyptus forests and spectacular lakes to Lake St Clair – Australia’s deepest freshwater lake.
Another highlight awaits at The Wall in the Wilderness, an extraordinary collection of Huon pine carvings created by artist Greg Duncan.
This afternoon we arrive at historic Tarraleah Estate, a former hydro-electric township transformed into one of Tasmania’s most distinctive accommodation experiences.

Day 11 – Sunday 26 September 2027 – Derwent Valley to Hobart

Enjoy a slightly later start this morning before we take in the views across Tarraleah and its historic hydro-electric scheme.
Our journey continues into the beautiful Derwent Valley, including a stop at Lawrenny Estate where there’s an opportunity for whisky and gin tastings.
We then travel to Mount Field National Park and magnificent Russell Falls.
The walk takes us through towering eucalyptus trees and beautiful tree ferns, with the possibility of spotting pademelons and other native wildlife along the way.
Those wanting a little more activity can extend their walk to another waterfall higher in the park.
After lunch at a local café overlooking the Tyenna River, we travel through the Derwent Valley and return to Hobart.
Tonight we’ll come together for our Travel With Lesley Whyte Farewell Dinner, raise a glass and celebrate the adventures, experiences and friendships we’ve shared during our journey around Tasmania.

Day 12 – Monday 27 September 2027 – Farewell Tasmania
It’s an early start this morning as our wonderful Tasmanian adventure comes to an end.
A private airport transfer has been arranged for our group, taking us to Hobart Airport for our onward journey.
After 12 memorable days exploring Tasmania, we farewell this beautiful island with lasting memories, wonderful stories and plenty of photographs from our journey together.
