Information Section – Sea Kayaking, Snorkelling & Base Camp Life

One of the highlights of your Ningaloo adventure is the opportunity to explore the spectacular Ningaloo Reef by sea kayak and snorkel alongside experienced local guides.

The sea kayaking takes place inside the fringing reef, where the protected lagoon is generally shallow and calm, providing ideal conditions for both kayaking and wildlife viewing. Following a comprehensive paddling instruction and safety briefing from your guides, you’ll set off at a relaxed pace to explore some of the most pristine sections of the Ningaloo coastline.

Each day is different, with a new section of coastline explored, offering fresh scenery, secluded beaches and unique snorkelling opportunities. Depending on weather conditions and the day’s activities, guests typically paddle between 5 and 12 kilometres per day.

The sheltered waters of Ningaloo provide excellent opportunities to spot marine life, including turtles, rays, reef fish and other wildlife that inhabit this remarkable ecosystem. Morning tea and lunch are often enjoyed on remote beaches accessible only by kayak, adding to the sense of adventure and discovery.

Snorkelling on Ningaloo Reef

Every day offers opportunities to snorkel some of the reef’s most spectacular locations.

At some sites, kayaks are landed on the beach before guests swim from shore, while at others the kayaks are anchored offshore, allowing direct access to the reef. Over many years, the local guides have discovered a number of exceptional snorkelling locations that are accessible only by kayak, providing a truly unique experience away from the crowds.

The crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral gardens make every snorkelling experience memorable, with opportunities to observe the incredible diversity of marine life that makes Ningaloo Reef one of Australia’s most treasured natural environments.

Returning to Base Camp

At the end of each day’s activities, the kayaks remain secured on the beach while guests return by vehicle to the comfort of base camp.

This means you’ll only need to carry your daily essentials while kayaking, making each day more enjoyable and relaxed.

Back at camp you can:

  • Enjoy a refreshing solar shower
  • Relax with a drink and snacks
  • Review the day’s adventures with fellow travellers
  • Watch the sun set over the rugged landscape
  • Identify wildlife using the camp’s reference materials
