Chatham Island Seafood Extravaganza Tour Details

Tour Inclusions:

  • Flights:Air Chatham flights departing from Wellington and returning to Wellington, valued at $1,300.
  • Accommodation: Seven nights at Hotel Chatham on the waterfront at Waitangi.
  • Solo Travellers: Enjoy your own room at no additional cost.
  • All-Day Coffee Bar: Enjoy Milo, coffee, and tea at the hotel.
  • Meals:
    • Cooked breakfasts and continental breakfasts.
    • Lunches
    • Dinners – three course with a glass of wine
    • Various dishes such as crayfish, Chatham Island Blue Cod, Paua, Hapuka, sashimi, and possibly the chef’s signature Blue Cod curry or Blue Cod & chips.
    • Seafood Degustation Lunch – Prepared by a private chef, including a glass of bubbles, at Kopi Bush Retreat. Hosts John & Bridget Preece will welcome you to their off-grid house featured on New Zealand’s Grand Design.
  • Transfers: Chatham Islands airport transfers.
  • Chatham Island Book: A comprehensive guide to the island’s history.
  • Transportation: Coach transport with a dedicated Chatham Island guide (Marcel requested). Explore the island’s wildlife, botany, geology, unique history, culture, and breathtaking scenery while meeting locals.
  • Fees: Department of Conservation and landowner concession fees included ($300 per person).
  • Visitor Levy: Voluntary Chatham Islands visitor levy included ($25 per person).

Tour Highlights:

While on the Chatham Islands, weather and lambing season permitting, we will visit:

  • Basalt Columns: Watch giant kelp sway and waves crash over the columns.
  • Tommy Solomon Statue: Guided by his grandson Maui Solomon, learn about the restorative tree planting.
  • Moriori Marae: Learn about the history of the Chatham Island Moriori.
  • Hapupu Tree Carvings: View and understand the significance of these carvings.
  •  Port Hutt: View shipwrecks, understand their history, and explore rock pools for paua.
  •  Waitangi West: Walk the sandy beach looking for pink paua shells.
  • Admiral Gardens: Enjoy a garden tour and seafood entree (main & desert back at the hotel). The gift shop offers amazing Chatham Island gifts – bring your credit card or cash.
  • Blind Jim’s: Wade shallow waters looking for fossilized shark teeth and sea urchin spines (gum boots required).
  • South Coast: Spot the Chatham Island Kereru and gaze towards Antarctica.
  • Kaingaroa:  Watch fishermen at work.
  • Sunderland Museum: View the restoration progress of the plane that crashed in 1959.
  • Chatham Island Museum: Immerse yourself in the island’s history.

Important Information:

No Hidden Costs: From your Air Chatham flight departure in Wellington until your return in Wellington, there are no additional costs with the exception of alcohol with your dinner and barista coffee or items from local gift and specialty shops. An ATM is available at the hotel and general store.

 Booking Information:

– A NZ$1,500 per person deposit secures your place.
– Balance is due 6 weeks prior, payable on invoice by credit card.

Cancellation Policy:

Refunds: If you cancel, refunds are only available if your seat can be sold.
Tour Cancellation: Full refund if the tour is canceled by us.

Insurance & Other Items

Chatham Islands weather can occasionally cause flight delays, we recommend you take travel insurance and if booking connecting flights, book fully flexible airfares for your flights to and from Wellington.  We are not be held responsible for any additional costs relating to flight changes should your Air Chatham flights be changed or be disrupted due to weather related delays.

  • Monday 19th May  – outbound flight departs Wellington at 2.00pm – group check in approx mid-day
  • Monday 26th May – return flight lands back in Wellington around 11.00am – please book any onward connecting fight for after 12.30pm

$5,600 per person – first floor Seaview Executive Suite, super king or two king single beds, ensuite with shower, lounge area, Sky TV, mini bar and tea making facility
$5,600 per person – Forget Me Not Executive Suites, king or two single beds, ensuite with shower, lounge area, fully equipped kitchen, veranda with sea views, Sky TV. One minute’s walk to hotel (if it’s raining we provide a shuttle service)
