*** NO SOLO TRAVELLER SUPPLEMENT *** Calling all artists – we’re leading a fully escorted tour to the Chatham Islands – departing Auckland Monday 30 September, returning to Auckland Friday 4 October, where Chatham Island artist Lois Croon will host us.
Lois’s art studio is nestled in the sheltered and beautiful Admiral Gardens, set within the stunning landscape of Admiral Farm and Lake Marakapia. Lois has combined her love of nature with her art to create her unique Chatham Island inspired paintings, jewellery, crafts and signature forget-me-not ceramics. You will see many pieces of her paintings hanging on the wall at Hotel Chathams.
We’ll be visiting stunning locations which will draw out your artistic creativity – what ever medium you use, you will be able to capture the rawness and beauty of Chatham Island life, farmers, stock, seascapes and its landscapes.
Bring everything – your pastels, pencils, charcoal, watercolour & acrylic paints, pen & ink, sketch pads, artists paper, portable easel and a small stool as a second checked in bag is included so you don’t need to skimp on what you pack. Don’t forget your camera so you can reference what you’re creating when we’re at our art workshops.
After our daily outdoor painting sessions, we will set-up our art equipment inside for our art workshops – here we have the opportunity to finish our Chatham Island “master peices”
There will be visits to locations, based on access where will will gather inspiration:
- Waitangi West where small pink paua shells lay abundantly on the foreshore
- Basalt columns and view the giant kelp wafting in the swells
- Hapupu to view the Moriori rakau momori (tree carvings or dendroglyphs) and the kopi groves that were planted by Moriori
- Ocean Mail where you can see the reef where in the 1800’s a ship was shipwrecked with the waves crashing against the picturesque white sand
- Lone, faded and rusting farmsheds – some leaning precariously, others still standing the test of time
- Capture farming landscape filled with livestock and the Chatham Island Ake Ake trees
- Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to capture the Chatham Island Forget Me Nots in flower – that would be an iconic piece for you to take home!
